Adoption is something that my husband and I always wanted to do. God has blessed us both and we wanted to share our blessings with someone that was not as fortunate as our family. I am a product of the adoption process and I was given a wonderful life. Our adopted child has truly brought us happiness. She is such a sweet inspiration considering what she has been through.
Our story has many twists and turns! We initially decided to adopt from China, as we wished for a little girl. MFFK completed our home visits and home study for us in the summer of 2005. We were thrilled to learn that we were clear to move to the next step in our process when Hurricane Katrina blew our plans away! My dear friend Kathy was also in the midst of a failed international adoption at this time and applied to the parents for a group of siblings she located on the Heart Gallery.
While in Texas visiting her children, Kathy told the social worker about me and Paul. Within weeks of Kathy’s kids arriving in Mississippi, the social worker contacted us about 2 little girls that she just “had a feeling” were our children! By the time the first phone call was complete, we were in love! We were warned that the girls looked “challenging” on paper, but prayed about it and decided to move forward. That all happened in December of 2007. Our girls landed in Mississippi on April 4, 2008 and our lives haven’t been the same since!
There are many challenges to opening your heart and home to older children, but there are just as many blessings and rewards! Our girls have been home for not quite 2 years and I cannot imagine life without them! Thanks to MFFK, we are a complete family.
